Holy Spirit Novena – Begins Thursday ends Pentecost Sunday

NOVENA TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

After Jesus had ascended into heaven the Church gathered in prayer in Jerusalem and prayed for nine days. At the end of these nine days of prayer, on the feast of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended on the group of Jesus’ followers and they began to go public and preach the Gospel. The days between Ascension Thursday and Pentecost are therefore the first novena celebrated in the Church. These nine days are the basis for the practice of praying novenas in the Church.

These nine days, each day, pray the Lord to send His Holy Spirit into your own life and into the heart of the Church.

“Come Holy Spirit fills the hearts of each of us and set us alight with the fire of your powerful presence. Come Holy Spirit and renew us and create in us the true spirit of disciples. Come and renew the whole Church and allow us to be part of this Spirit-filled renewal. Amen”
